Śepl Moroder da Jumbierch
Śepl Moroder da Jumbierch (Josef Moroder Lusenberg) is considered the most important painter in Ladinia. Bera Śepl lived on the Jumbierch farm in Ortisei, but in 1876 he moved to Munich, where he studied at the Academy as a student of Carl Piloty and Ludwig von Löfftz. From 1880 to 1884, he was a student of Franz von Defregger, who was a lover of historicism and genre paintings. Moroder produced many oil paintings, most of which were sold all over the world, but subsequently lost. Additionally, he painted numerous watercolours and sketches in small books that he carried around with him. Additionally, he noted down facts and thoughts. Moroder was a keen observer of nature, rural landscapes, people and village life. One of his paintings, that depicting the Three Wise Men, can be seen on the altar of St Durich´s Church in Ortisei. In the same church, there are also sculptures by Josef Moroder. Paintings by Śepl Moroder da Jumbierch can also be found at St.Antonio's Church in Ortisei.
