Luigi Demattia was born in Salejei and was a priest and composer. He was one of the great composers of the nineteenth century in the history of ecclesiastic music, comparable to Palestrina, Haller or Mitterer. His opus includes five ordinary and funeral masses, 65 offertories, 15 graduals, 12 Hail Marys, 7 Marian antiphons, 15 tantum ergo, 36 hymns, 7 motets, two vespers, four litanies and much more. Luigi Demattia composed in Latin for male and mixed choirs, two, four and six voices, and organ or orchestra. Some pieces are also written in German and Italian. Part of his music was published in Regensburg.
