Martin Demetz attended the Academy of Art in Venice, then taught at the Art Institute of Trento and later became the director of the School of Art in Selva. Faithful to the figurative tradition of Gardena sculpture, Martin Demetz found his style in a successful balance between figurative elements and abstraction. In full-round sculptures and bas-reliefs, ranging from wooden statues to works in cast and beaten bronze and copper, the artist gave expression to a wide range of contents and forms. From a thematic point of view, he was particularly interested in the various stages of human life, for which he always created symbolic images.
