Very little is known today about the church painter August Pezzey. Born in La Valle, he worked in Val Pusteria, Innsbruck and Vienna in the second half of the 19th century. One of his signed works, a painting depicting St. Joseph with Child Jesus (1877), is conserved in the parish church of Pieve di Marebbe. He also painted the portrait of various deans for the clergy house next to the church. He died in Innsbruck in 1915.
