Giuseppe Ghedina
The photographer Giuseppe Ghedina Basilio stood out at a young age at the State Art Institute in Cortina, but he also achieved outstanding results in sports: at the Olympic Games in Chamonix (1924) he came tenth in the 50 km cross-country skiing race. He also devoted himself to mountaineering and explored new routes. As a passionate mountain and landscape photographer, he spent many years focusing on the Croda and made it known throughout the world. In 1942, he received the coveted Croce al Merito di Guerra (War Merit Cross) for photographing on the front lines during the Greek-Albanian War. In 1950, the C.O.N.I. awarded him the Gold Medal (Medaglia) for his work as a sports cameraman. In 1953, he worked with Luis Trenker on the film Arditi della roccia. For over a decade, he also dealt with municipal administration.
