Manuel Riz
After graduating in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts Brera (Milan) with a dissertation on the evolution of Carnival in Val di Fassa, Manuel Riz worked as a program planner and director at the RAI headquarters in Bolzano. In his personal exhibitions, he analyses the customs and traditions of contemporary society through performances that highlight the contradictions of mountain people and the unrest in the Dolomites, including Dolomites Shop - Lia mostra d’ert - Circolo, St. Ulrich (2016) and Unterl@ndia - Kunstforum Unterland, Egna (2019). Among his most important awards is the 3rd prize at the XXVII International Biennial of Humor in Art in Tolentino (MC). He was selected for the Trienala Ladina at the Ladin Museum, St. Martin in Thurn, and was a finalist for the 2013 Art Prize at Palazzo della Permanente, Milan. Together with artist Claus Soraperra, he manages the Frida Street Gallery in Canazei, a place of encounter and dialogue that aims to promote artistic and cultural exchange of the local population. In addition to his artistic activity, he has been a caricaturist and cartoonist for the weekly newspaper La Usc di Ladins in the Ladin valleys since 2001. In 2014, he received the Special Mention Gran Guinigi Prize at the Lucca Comics & Games Festival for the book Scedola Patofies.
