Luis Trenker
Luis Trenker was a mountain guide, mountaineer, director, and actor in mountain films. His architecture studies in Vienna and Graz were interrupted by his enlistment in World War I. Luis Trenker’s films are characterized by great pathos and heroic exaltation. Among his numerous films, Berge in Flammen (English title: Mountains on Fire), The Lost Son, and Condottieri are particularly noteworthy. In order to make films, he entered into professional relationships with the Nazi and fascist regimes, which were beneficial to him. After World War II, he devoted himself mainly to writing memoirs and mountain books. He became known in the German-speaking world through television programs in which he talked about his life experiences.
