Francesco Bernard was born in Pera and studied at the Staatsgewerbeschule in Innsbruck. He taught in schools in Pozza, Campitello and Canazei, as well as giving art classes. Francesco Bernard travelled extensively and lived abroad for several years in order to devote himself fully to his study of art. After returning to Val di Fassa, he painted several frescoes and altarpieces in a number of churches. His portraits and watercolours on the flags of Regoles della Comunità di Fassa are worth mentioning.
