Tresl Gruber
Theresia Tresl Gruber attended secondary school in Bologna and Academies in Florence and Venice. As a young woman, she got to know the painter Gustav Jahn, who frequented Val Gardena to paint. She was one of the first art teachers in the Ladin valleys. She taught in Ortisei, Merano and Bolzano in Italy and also Belém in Brazil, where she founded an art school. In addition, she was one of the first women in charge of preserving and developing the Ladin language in the 1930s-1940s. She wrote the first Gardenese school books between 1945 and 1960, including Mi fibla, Ciofs ladins and a spelling book for Val Gardena school teachers entitled Ladinische Schulschreibung. She also wrote numerous articles for the Calënder de Gherdëina.
