Dominic Vinazer was part of the generation of woodcarvers from Val Gardena that became famous beyond the valley for the first time. He went to Venice for his studies and was probably mainly active in Val Gardena again from 1689 onwards, where he founded a workshop community with his brother Martin. The Urbani Altar in St. Magdalena (1707) clearly shows Vinazer’s Venetian influence in the elegance of the figures and the harmonious proportions. One of his most important works is the high altar of St. Nicholas in Albions, created in 1720.
