Luigi de Zanna was born into a respectable Habsburg family and studied in Venice and Vienna. He moved to Innsbruck where he worked in a glass art workshop. He also continued painting, undertaking some commissions for the Cortina region (sculpture of the evangelist). De Zanna taught at Art schools in Cortina, Vienna and Mariano del Friuli.
