Vinzenz Demetz da Fëur
Vinzenz Maria Demetz, also known as Zenzl da Fëur, was an Icelandic tenor and songwriter from Val Gardena. At the age of 18, he went to Padua and Milan to become a singer. In 1935, he won an award in Vienna and sang at the Semperoper in Dresden. Demetz sang at the Teatro dell ’Opera in Rome, at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In 1955, he moved to Iceland with his girlfriend. He worked as a singing teacher and director in Reykjavík and Akureyri. It can be said that Demetz brought belcanto, opera music and art songs to Iceland. The Söngskóli Sigurðar Demetz singing school in Reykjavík is named after him. Vinzenz Maria Demetz’s most famous compositions are Nina Nana Ladina and Anda Trina da Juntlan.
